Mobile Education Trainings (METs) in Bogota, Colombia

August 30, 2024

The Institute for Security Governance (ISG) recently delivered three Mobile Education Trainings (METs) in Bogota, Colombia.  The METs included two courses in support of Women, Peace and Security, titled “Women’s Integration into the Armed Forces,” and “Women, Leadership and National Defense”—the latter with an emphasis on the important role that Gender Advisors can play in support of military planning and operations.  The METs were delivered in support of Office of Security Cooperation, U.S. Embassy Bogota.

Additionally, in coordination with the Office of Security Cooperation and in support of the U.S. Naval Mission, ISG delivered a MET on “Strategic Leadership” for the Colombian Navy. This course was tailored toward mid-to-senior level leaders and focused on the changing nature of the global maritime security environment and the steps strategic leaders can take to address evolving threats in this domain. The course concluded with a half-day senior leader seminar for 13 flag officers from the Colombian Navy.

Mr. Ian Wexler, ISG Director, was in-country to observe both the “Strategic Leadership” and the “Women, Leadership and National Defense” METs.  While he was there, Wexler also had the opportunity to meet with faculty from ISG’s on-going Institutional Capacity Building (ICB) Non-Resident Advising program, which focuses on strengthening Colombian defense sector institutions.

The timing of his visit provided Wexler with an opportunity to preside over the "Strategic Leadership" MET’s closing ceremony.
