Mr. Erik Stohlmann is the Principal for Europe within the Regional Advising at the Institute for Security Governance (ISG). He formerly served as the Institute’s Deputy Director and as Senior Principal for Education and Professional Practice (EPP).
Mr. Stohlmann has significant experience and expertise in Naval Aviation command, maintenance, operations and training; weaponeering and targeteering, to include related intelligence systems; European defense and security structures, and policy; Navy personnel and human resourcing systems and practices; and graduate-level education program and curricular design. He served as the Military Associate Dean for the School of International Graduate Studies (SIGS) located at the US Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) representing the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans, and Strategy (OPNAV N3/N5) for all national security, regional security, civil-military relations, and homeland defense and security graduate education and certificate programs performed by SIGS. In addition, he was the Principal Investigator for the Navy's Regional Security Education Program (RSEP), the Joint Foreign Area Officer (FAO) for continuing education and professional development program and all Navy FAO education and training programs delivered by NPS.
Mr. Stohlmann's military career included numerous aviation assignments embarked on aircraft carriers during contingency and combat operations resulting in over 2800 flight hours and more than 650 carrier arrested landings. Also, he worked in multiple Navy and Joint Headquarters' staffs within the Operations and Policy Directorates as well as serving overseas in Bahrain, Germany, Japan, Norway, and Spain. Following his military service, he worked at Huntington Ingalls Industries as a Portfolio Manager for DoD education and training programs.
Mr. Stohlmann is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, NPS, and the Spanish War College with undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Political Science, German, and Spanish as well as postgraduate degrees in European Security Studies and Spanish Defense Strategy. He is professionally conversant in German and Spanish.
