ISG Principles of Defense Acquisition Management

Congratulations to the latest cohort of the Institute for Security Governance's International Defense Acquisition Resource Management (IDARM) "Principles of Defense Acquisition Management" course graduates. This course provides a theoretical and practical examination of the underlying concepts, fundamentals, and philosophies of the international defense acquisition management process. 


Participants examine the complete defense acquisition life cycle from planning through equipment disposal. The course addresses management characteristics and competencies, control policies and techniques, systems analysis methods, risk management, and functional area concerns. International best practices are discussed along with implementation-related challenges.

♦ Capabilities based planning and requirements 
♦ Multiple objectives criteria in decision-making 
♦ Risk management
♦ Acquisition logistics planning 
♦ Life cycle cost management 
♦ Strategies for building and sustaining accountability in defense acquisition decision-making 


This course can be completed as a standalone two week resident course or as part of the broader IDARM Defense Acquisition Management six week resident course pipeline. The next iteration of this resident course iteration is scheduled 27 January - 7 February 2025. Courses are conducted as part of the U.S. Government’s Security Cooperation efforts. Interested partner nation personnel should contact their government’s international cooperation section, or the relevant U.S. Embassy’s security/military cooperation office for selection processes and enrollment.
