Dr. Fritz assumed the responsibilities of the Vice President of the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) in December 2023. As Vice President he provides leadership and oversight for the University's internal functions as well as serving as DSCU's Chief Academic Officer, which includes shaping curriculum for all DSCU components. In this role, Dr. Fritz integrates the University's three mission sets through academic rigor, innovation, and increased efficiencies across DSCU's five components and three headquarters elements.
Dr. Fritz has more than twenty years of national security experience as a leader in government, academia, and the private sector. Prior to joining DSCU, he was a subject matter expert for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the World Bank, the Brookings Institution’s Foreign Policy program, as well as various private sector companies in the national security arena. Dr. Fritz has been an adjunct on the faculties of the George Washington University, American University, and Johns Hopkins University. He is a contributing editor at War on the Rocks. He joined the DSCU in August 2022 as a College of Strategic Security Cooperation Senior Lecturer.
From 2002 to 2008, Dr. Fritz was a cavalry officer in the U.S. Army in the 3d Infantry Division where he served in positions from tank platoon leader to brigade planner. He served three tours of duty in Iraq.
Dr. Fritz received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Terrorism and Homeland Security Policy from American University, and a Ph.D. in Justice, Law and Criminology from American University. His areas of research include International Security Politics, Conflict Processes, Generating Security Forces, and Foreign Fighters.
