PMA-310 SC and Great Power Competition

This is not a course focused on China or Russia, instead this course is focused on Great Power Competition (GPC), its history and its lessons for today.  The course provides the Security Cooperation Workforce Professional (SCWFP) an overview of what GPC is, its history, its role in national strategic objectives and how Security Cooperation (SC) ties into GPC.

The SCWFP will study several different eras of GPC, U.S., and non-U.S., to understand how GPC influences conflict and partnerships.

This course is reading intensive, and a SCWFP will not be given credit if they do not actively participate in classroom discussions.  Furthermore, SCWFPs are encouraged to share ideas and experiences. SCWFPs should have a baseline understanding of international affairs and political science.  If you don’t…do the readings and ask questions.  The instructor will get you through the course if you put in the effort.

The current iteration of this course is in-person (DSCU headquarters in Arlington, VA.) for those stationed in the Washington DC area. For those out of area an MS Teams option will be available. Exceptions can be made by the instructor. The course will run from 11-2pm. However, only 12-2pm is for reserved in-person lecture and discussion. The first hour is allotted for students to read and research.
